In dit deel kun je algemene informatie vinden over gebieden in Oostenrijk, aanbevolen accomodaties, kaarten en gidsen etc.
Aangezien het hoofddoel van deze website is om bezoekers te vertellen over onze reizen en niet om een "wiki"-site te zijn, hebben we ervoor gekozen om dit deel zo beknopt mogelijk te houden en alleen een collectie aan weblinks te tonen naar sites die veel meer (gedetailleerde) informatie te bieden hebben.

In veel gebieden in Oostenrijk kun je kaarten aanschaffen voor korting op (of zelfs gratis gebruik van) kabelbanen, attracties, musea etc. Met zo'n kaart is het zeker mogelijk flink wat geld te besparen!

There are a lot of excellent maps about Austria available on the market. Those maps are available at the local stores and tourist offices.
The maps we use are from Freytag & Berndt (F&B). These maps, scale 1:50.000, have detailed geographic information (mountain names, heights, contour lines etc.) as well as detailed information about the roads, paths (marked and unmarked), climbs, alpine huts etc.
There are also good maps (also 1:50.000) from Kompass. They have an extra guide with information about the region (villages, valleys, culture etc.) and short tour descriptions.

Ost-Tirol is the smallest state of Austria. Do not confuse it with Tirol, because that is another part of Austria! Lienz is the capitol city of Ost-Tirol and by far the biggest city of Ost-Tirol.
Famous valleys are the Prägratental, Defereggental, Pustertal, Gailtal and Lesachtal. In the north there is the Alpen mainridge with the famous Gross Venediger and Gross Glockner (Austria's highest summit). On the west and south Ost-Tirol connects to Italy and on the east to Kärnten.

As you see in the pictures above, Salzburgerland is divided into several area's. In the north you have the beautiful city Salzburg, below the Tennengebirge (Tennegau). At the bottem part you'll notice the Pinzgau, Pongau and Lungau region. Click on the map to see a larger map with more detail.
