Brussels & The Atomium

  • Where: Brussels
  • When: August 2007

The capitol city of Belgium (and the EU) is definitly worth a visit for its architecture, art and gastronomy. Plus, it's easy to reach by public transport. In addition we went to see the Atomium, the famous monument built for the World Expo in 1958.

There are a lot of nice parks, many water fountains, interesting wall paintings of well known comics and ofcourse Manneken Pis. Anyway, here are some more pictures:

The Atomium was renovated in 2004 and is now open for public. The cubes can be reached via long, steep stairs and escalators. The top one can be reached via a - pretty fast (5m/s!) - lift and provides a panoramic view of the city. To travel to the Atomium from the city centre, it is best to use the metro.
