Departure at 07:10h from Maastricht and we arrived around 15:00h in Brand. In the evening we had a nice diner in a restaurant in Brand. Weather: sunny and dry.
First we went shopping at SparMarkt in Bürs for some groceries. Weather: again sunny and dry, couldn't be any better :)
For our first tour we decided to go outside Austria :) We walked / climbed Fürstensteig in Liechtenstein. A very spectacular route, not too difficult and superb views!
A day to relax. The weather was a bit bad with some showers and 'only' 19 degrees celsius maximum.
Although the weather wasn't much better than yeasterday, my father and I went out for a training-day. We climbed Niggenkopf (1589m.) and went down via the Parpfienz Alpe. Because it was some sort of a training we did the tour in a record time (at least a record time for us): only 130 minutes.
A tour day again. This time we visited an unknown village for us: Gargellen. From here we took the chair lift up towards Schafberg (2100m.) and then by foot towards Gafier Joch (2415m). From here a bit of scrambling towards Juonenfürkli (2600m.) and Madrisa Joch (2612m.); our highest summit this day.
Great alpine tour with nice views from 'the other side' (in other words: views on the Swiss mountains and the south side of the Rätikon) and the Silvretta mountains. Weather was superb: sunshine all day.
A day at the cottage. Nice dry and warm weather.
A bit cold today. Sunshine and showers. Nice for photography, but not for hiking in the mountains... So we decided to stay at home. In the evening we enjoyed a great meal at Ghf Kreuz in Rankweil.
Great weather for a great tour: Glatthorn (2134m) in the Bregenzer Wald region (Damüls, Faschinajoch (1486m.)). We parked our car at Faschinajoch and walked over a provisions road towards the chair lift end-station. From here a nice path went over the ridge towards Fürkele and from here the actual climb towards the summit of Glatthorn started, which actually was pretty steep.
Nice weather again, up to 25 degrees celsius with a lot of sunshine.
We made a trip to Innsbruck this day :) First time we visited this city. A nice auto tour via the Arlbergpass (1793m.) brought us in Innbruck. Weather was very nice, and we had a great day strolling around down town Innsbruck.
Because we liked the Drei Schwestern tour we did in '95 so much, we did it again in 1996!. Ofcourse we took some new photographs you can see here.
Another day at the cottage. Again warm weather.
Strolled around down town Bludenz during the day. Weather was not so good: rainy all day and only 16 degrees Centigrade. But hey, why worry ? The weather will be better again according to the weather-man :)
The weather-man was right :) Sunny and dry again. In the evening we had a nice meal at Ghf Kreuz in Rankweil.
Another great day. This day we climbed the summit of Schesaplana (2965m.) for the second time. Climbing Schesaplana from the Lünersee and Totalp Hütte is probably not the most exiting one, but it's a nice climb and you have great views all the way. We still want to climb this summit from the Oberzalim valley and Mannheimer Hütte one day ... Although it was warm weather in the valley, at the summit is was bearly above zero :)
Sunshine and rain all day. We decided to stay at the cottage for some rest.
Another rainy day and cooler weather (around 16 degrees celsius maximum).
We made a quite long round tour in the Brandnertal. We took the Niggenkopf chair lift towards the middle part (Egga). Here we got off the chair lift and walked towards Parpfienz Alpe (1516m.), Aussere Parpfienz Alpe (1620m.) and Burtscha Sattel (1640m.). This was our highest point of the tour. From now a long descent followed: Burtscha Alpe (1430m.), Schesatobel, Zugswald (1290m.) and Tschapina (924m.). From here we walked back to Brand via the Grüner Wald Weg.
Afterwards we looked back at a great tour in a region we thought we knew well, but discovered that there was a lot more to see! Weather was nice, not too hot, perfect for a hike.
Our last tour this year: Hohes Rad (2934m.) in the Silvretta region. A very beautiful alpine tour with a superb view at the Silvretta mountains. We walked from the Silvretta lake (Bielerhöhe 2068m.) towards Wiesbadner Hütte (2442m). From here a path leads to the east side of Hohes Rad via Rad Sattel (2652m.) and Rad Schulter. At this point the last part of the climb towards the summit starts. Scrambling over large rocks we reached the summit, a very nice route I must say. After a deserved break we go back to the Rad Schulter and took the direct route back towards Bielerhöhe. A long tour, but very satisfying!
Our last day at the cottage doing nothing exhausting :)
Went back home again.
That's it!
