Travelday. I suppose everything went well, because in my 'original notes' I didn't write anything about it :)
Our first tour went towards the Palüd Hütte (1700m). From our holiday cottage we walked towards the idyllic Glinga Brunnen. From here on upwards on a broad provision road towards the Palüd Maisäss, GHF Melkboden and finally the Palüd Hütte. After a well deserved break we continued our tour towards the Niggenkopf and took the route Niggenkopf Waldweg - Thurmerweg - Eggaweg back towards Brand. A great tour for the start of a sportive holiday ...
Even on a holiday one needs to eat, so today was 'shopping for groceries'-day.
Unfortunately, this day we lost our photocamera during a hiking tour... that meant no photographs of this holiday, only memories .. (at the time we somehow didn't realize there were also those use-once - throw-away camera's available, anyway ...). Too bad anyway that we realized that we lost our camera when we were back at our holiday cottage, so we didn't know the 'exact' place where we had lost the camera. Well, we had an idea of course, but it was too general to go look for it ... About the tour ? Well, we hiked a part of the Geologischer Höhenweg, high above Bartholomäberg (Montafon). Superb views and educational :)
A day to relax. The weather was nice: hot and sunny!
Our third tour this year was in the Brandnertal. We parked the car in Tschappina (nearby Bürserberg) and followed the pretty steep trail through the forrest towards Gaschiera Kopf (1291m) , Schesatobel and Burtscha Alpe (1431m). The final goal was the Burtscha Kopf also known on maps as Taleu (1746m). We walked the same way back. All the way we were seperated from tourism and all alone on lonely alps (which were exhausting in the full midday sun!)
Another day to relax ...
This day we visited the Bregenzer Wald again and made a great tour, again, away from mass tourism! We parked the car at the touristic Furka Joch (1759m) and hiked towards Alpe Portla. Along the small Blauer See we reached the Sünser Joch. From here over green alps and, in the end, over a pretty steep ridge towards Sünser Spitz (2062m). The way back went over broad green alps again towards the Sünser See and Sünser Alpe. By choosing this route we made a nice roundtour. A superb 5½ hours tour!
Training-day! My father and I did the roundtour Brand - Niggenkopf - Parpienz Alpe - Brand as some sort of 'training' and managed to complete the tour in 140 minutes.
Just a day doing nothing exhausting ;)
The plan was to do a tour in a 'lower' region, because the weather was not that good (rain in the afternoon etc) ... we picked the Hohe Kugel, 1645m. Problem was that it had started to rain a bit already... but why not give it a try anyway, right ? We drove towards Ebnit (a pretty adventurous ride already because of the narrow road passages, small dark tunnels etc.!) and followed the trail towards the Schneewald Alpe. This alp was more like a swamp and now the rain was already really present (but because we had walked in a forest until now, we didn't really notice it was raining this heavy). Anyway, we continued and by the time we almost reached the Kugel Alpe (we couldn't see it at that point) we decided to get back, because the rain was too heavy ...
From this point everything went terribly fast and terribly wrong. On our way back we came to a passage were water coming off the slopes had built up into a pretty rough little river. We thought that it wouldn't be wise to cross this (because of debris coming along with the water etc), so we turned again to go for the Kugel Alpe and -hopefully- find people where we could stay at a while until the rain stopped (or at least, a little less). On our way back we reached another 'river' that wasn't there before and we felt a little locked-up at that time. We had to continue, otherwise we would have been stuck there in the pooring rain, so we took the chance ... Luckily nothing happend and we all crossed it safely. In a short while we reached the Kugel Alpe where we knocked on a door of a friendly family who didn't hesitate to take us inside, give us dry warm clothes etc. Luckily the owner could take us downwards to the main valley by car / Jeep .. only problem was that it wasn't the valley of Ebnit where we had our car parked! :) In a restaurant we called a cab who brought us back to Ebnit (imagine the bill we had to pay ;)
Once we got back safely in our holiday cottage we heard on the radio news that there where floods all over Vorarlberg, that passes had to close and that the road to Ebnit was closed! I guess we were just on time to leave Ebnit, otherwise we had to stay in that village for the night :S Anyway, in the end we learned some valuable lessons this day ...
This day was just a day to relax (especially because of what happened the day before!). We went to Schruns to the police station to report the missing photocamera ... you never know ... (we never got it back though)
Superb weather so my father an I decided to climb Rätikon's highest summit: Schesaplana 2965m. We took the 'easy' route via Lünersee and the Totalp Hütte. A very nice route, not too difficult, but because of that, very crowded! Passing people was a mess, simply because many were not used to do such tours (even if it wasn't a very difficult tour, you still had to have gear and a little experience!). We did see quite a few narrow escapes that day ...But the view from the summit was superb! We had to get back another year, just to take pictures!
A day to relax after a pretty exhausting previous day.
Our last tour of this year was going to be a moderately 'easy' one. In the Dünserberg region we made a nice tour on partially pretty steep alps :) The weather was nice and the views even nicer. A great tour to end this holiday with :)
Went back home again.
That's it!
